Four refrigerated railway wagons from China arrived in Nigeria a few days ago. A reporter from the Beijing Daily client learned from China Civil Engineering that this was the first batch of modernized railway refrigerated wagons in Nigeria’s history. So far, a total of 61 locomotives and maintenance equipment purchased by China Civil Engineering Nigeria Co., Ltd. for the Akka Railway Project and the Rye Railway Project have all been delivered to Nigeria after 70 days of sea transportation.
China Civil Engineering signed a contract with the Nigerian Ministry of Transport for the Akka and Rai Railway Locomotive and Rolling Stock Projects in 2018. The vehicles are mainly used for the Akka Railway, the Central Line Railway and the Rai Railway constructed by China-Turkey Nigeria.
With the economic development of Nigeria, the demand for fresh goods transportation by the inland people of Nigeria has been increasing. Therefore, large-volume, long-distance, and high-quality railway refrigerated transportation methods are becoming more and more important. The arrival of the first batch of standard-gauge railway refrigerated trucks will help Nigeria to create a "maritime + railway + road" combined transport model, through the largest port in Nigeria, Apapa Port, Rye Railway, Nigeria’s existing cold storage base facilities, etc., to complete shipping, railways and roads The docking and transshipment of transportation realizes the seamless connection of import and export of fresh products from port to warehouse.
The combination of railway transportation and cold chain logistics business can not only further alleviate the congestion of Apapa Port and promote the development of port refrigerated container business, but also make full use of the advantages of large capacity and high loading rate of railway refrigerated wagons to reduce operating costs .
According to reports, after the gradual normalization of the Rye Railway refrigerated truck transportation, it is expected to become a new profit growth point for Nigeria’s railway, and Chinese companies will make new contributions to the improvement of people’s livelihood and well-being.
